Why Are We Not Talking About This Enough?
In South Africa, there is a serious lack of support for people who want — or need — to stop smoking, vaping, or even using snuff. It’s something I feel deeply about, because I’ve lived it.
For 35 years, I was a heavy smoker.
I tried everything… tranquillisers, gums, patches, inhalers — you name it. I even paid a lot of money to a very well-known programme that almost guarantees you’ll never smoke again. And yet, I still found myself stuck in the cycle.
The truth is, quitting nicotine is not just physical — it’s deeply behavioural and emotional. And that’s where so many solutions fall short.
The Reality We Are Facing
Let’s be honest about what’s happening around us:
Smoking damages nearly every organ in the body. It’s linked to lung disease, heart disease, stroke, and multiple cancers.
Vaping is often seen as “safer,” but it still exposes users to nicotine addiction and harmful chemicals affecting the lungs and brain.
Snuff, often overlooked, is linked to cancers of the mouth, throat, and pancreas.
And then there’s the cost…
Cigarettes in South Africa are expensive — and rising. Yet despite this, there is a massive demand for cheap illicit cigarettes. Why? Because addiction doesn’t go away when prices go up — people simply look for cheaper, often more harmful alternatives.
What breaks my heart the most is seeing how young children are now smoking and vaping. The age is getting younger and younger. This is no longer just an adult problem — it’s a national concern.
We have created a 21 day quit smoking programme
And a blend of herbal tea to detox your lungs while you are working on the programme.
